One more grave for Sánchez?

Again, they are already salivating, leaving him for dead. “The Ábalos case is Sánchez's grave,” they have gone so far as to say in a PP whose desire to erode the PSOE with the argument of corruption is evident. They do not forget that, because of her, they left the government in 2018 with a motion of censure. Although precisely that starting point for President Pedro Sánchez is what makes this crisis different from others that in the past threatened his career. This might not be another political grave for him, one of those that ends up compounded and without a tenant.

In favor of the socialist leader, for the moment, it plays that whoever was his Minister of Development and secretary of organization is not even accused and that he is considered a “party man”, which means that in theory he will not do anything harmful. for his training and that he will take his secrets to the political grave that, for him, seems to be waiting around the corner. But that's where the president's most optimistic options for success end. And we'll see how long it lasts.

Nature itself and the legitimizing basis that supports them play against the president and his Government. They arrived there flying the flag against corruption and, for this reason, Sánchez set a very high bar of demands from the beginning, which took over, a few days later, his Minister of Culture Máximo Huerta for past irregularities (and settled) with the Treasury and then to its Minister of Health Carmen Montón, for irregularities in her (master's) studies. Even the astronaut who became a minister, Pedro Duque, was in check, although he was saved, giving many explanations about a chalet.

For Sánchez, apart from Vox's anti-pact insurance, the corruption of the PP has been the great kryptonite that weakens the options of those of Núñez Feijóo to establish themselves as a plausible alternative in the eyes of a sufficient part of the citizens, as well as for a capable portion of the parliamentary arc when even considering the option of giving it their support. Hence how extremely toxic the Koldo García scandal is for the president, “advisor” (with all the quotes) of who was a key minister and his number two in the PSOE.

The firewall is very difficult to practice at these levels, even more so when the most poisoned piece with a case of corruption that seems flagrant not only worked for this important man who was the right hand of the great leader, but was originally considered a “man from Santos Cerdán”, the organization secretary of that same leader.

As if this were not enough, then there is the strange management of the “exit operation” for Ábalos. Why has it taken so long to ask him to leave? Why is it so hard to convince him? Why has the former minister starred in a media tour? It seems that, as he himself has warned, this is not going to end even if he leaves. He gives the feeling that there is more. Perhaps it is one more of those graves that the president ultimately leaves unoccupied. Or not, we'll see. But, without a doubt, this is not just another crisis for him.
