Nacho Elvira falls in Denmark after six playoff holes... but will play the British Open

Nacho Elvira (36) made sure this Sunday to play the 151st British Open that will be held next week at Royal Liverpool, in what will be his first appearance in a major. A small or great consolation, depending on how you want to see it, after the man from Madrid lost on the sixth hole of the tiebreaker at Made In HimmerLand, the Danish Open, against Rasmus Hojgaard, the local idol.

Elvira was looking for her second victory on the DP World Tour and the fifth with a Spanish flavor this season -Campillo, Rahm and Pablo Larrazábal have already won twice-, but she ran into an icy Rasmus Hojgaard, who came from behind in the Last day, with a great birdie at 18 included, forced the playoff and was relentless.

Both players played over and over again, up to six, the imposing 18th hole but with more or less brilliance they signed pars one after the other to lengthen the outcome to the despair and passion of the Danish public alike.

Finally, to win his fourth title on the European Tour, the talented player from Billund, who became the first Danish player to win the Open in his country, only had a par on that sixth playoff hole to beat an Elvira who he knocked the ball out of bounds with his second shot from the high rough.

An ugly end for the Spaniard after a great week in HimmerLand, from which he will surely take the positive side when he has to get the ticket to Hoylake, where it should be remembered there will be seven other Spaniards: Jon Rahm, Adri Arnaus, Pablo Larrazábal, Adrián Otaégui, Jorge Campillo, Alejandro Cañizares and Josele Ballester (amateur).
