Mourning in the Sau swamp

This photograph that we see in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia shows the Sau reservoir with the church of Santa Romà, a black and white image that symbolizes mourning for the lack of water in this reservoir, which is increasingly empty.

The current state of the reservoir is drawn with the ruins of the old town of Sant Romà clearly visible and with the desert landscape around the little water that remains in the dam.

The reservoir, inaugurated in 1962, covered the town of Sant Romà de Sau, the remains of which, especially the church bell tower, are visible when the dammed water level is low.

This reservoir is part of a system of three swamps (along with those of Susqueda and Pasteral) that unites the counties of Osona, in the province of Barcelona, and La Selva, in the province of Girona.

Not only is the entire Romanesque church of Sant Romà and the ruins of the town perfectly visible, but the second tower of the old mill and the cemetery have already been exposed.
