'Moriu-vos', the play that wants to fight against ageism

What is it about old age that scares society so much? Why are the elderly often relegated to the background? These are some of the reflections raised by Moriu-vos, the new play by the company Cultura i Conflicte, which premieres this November 10 at 8:00 p.m. at the Salt theater, as part of Temporada Alta, and which will be will move from November 17 to December 11 to the small room of the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya.

Under the direction of Joan Arqué Solà, who was behind the award-winning Encara hi ha algú al bosc, and with Sol Picó behind the choreography, the show is presented as a rebellion against ageism but, in the company's words, "wants actually make us reflect on ourselves”.

To make this possible, Moriu-vos will feature a wide variety of scenic languages, such as music, words, images or moving bodies. The latter are "especially important because it is precisely the body that allows us to verify that a person grows older", explained the playwright Anna Maria Ricart at the presentation press conference on Monday, in which she also advanced that the plot will have two stories. "The first of them will be focused on a woman who lives alone in her house and the other in a residence."

For his part, Arqué, assured in said presentation that one of the objectives is "to teach the public that another life is possible" and try to understand "why wise and expert people are not valued, who after all are our memory."

Alongside the work, there is an educational project and an installation created by Oriol Casanovas Puigjané and Marta Garcia Cardellac where digital and stereoscopic photography converge.
