The PowerCo offices in Valencia, in the city center, are beginning to become too small. The company, a subsidiary of SEAT-Volkswagen and responsible for the future Sagunt battery gigafactory, already has more than a hundred employees. “In just one year we have reached a relevant milestone for the company with the hiring of more than 100 people to start up our plant,” said the head of HR at PowerCo Spain, Alexander Dittrich, yesterday.
Most importantly, of the 104 workers, 57, more than half, are from the Valencian Community. And by age, PowerCo pointed out that the average age of the staff is 39 years old, with the youngest person on the staff being a young woman from Sagunt who is barely 24 years old, while the oldest person is 65 years old.
The company, which started last year with a dozen employees, has been growing with operational positions. Throughout the year, PowerCo explains that it has focused its efforts on consolidating “a multidisciplinary, diverse and highly committed team.” As an example, currently 40% of the total workforce are women, and they represent 45% of the positions of responsibility, “which demonstrates our clear commitment to diversity and inclusion,” added Dittrich.
In terms of professional profiles, most of the workers who joined in this first phase of the project have higher degrees, among which engineers stand out with 60 professionals, while the rest of the technical profiles are made up of lawyers, economists, journalists , as well as experts in labor relations or business administration and management, among others. “The PowerCo team is dominated by a diversity of ages, origins and professional profiles, but if there is one thing that unites them, it is their commitment to leading the transformation of the automotive industry towards electromobility. “We are very proud of the team we are building,” said the head of Human Resources.
The bulk of the hiring will come later, when the company begins to open hiring for its production lines. For this, the factory will have to be more advanced, since the preliminary work is currently being completed and the construction will take place throughout 2024. Already at the last eMobility Expo World Congress in Valencia, the company's CEO, Thomas Dahlem , announced that the gigafactory would award the construction works "in the coming weeks", a time that is now shortened to "the next few days" as Dahlem noted yesterday.
