Ministry of Transport and Community of Madrid will meet over Cercanías breakdowns

The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda has taken up the gauntlet to the Government of the Community of Madrid and has called a meeting of the Monitoring Commission of the capital's Commuter Plan for next October 24, after the Executive led by Isabel Díaz Ayuso asked for an urgent meeting due to the latest incidents and breakdowns of the railway service which, according to her calculations, "represent a daily loss of 5 million euros to the regional GDP."

The Secretary of State for Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, David Lucas, has been in charge of communicating this call through a letter sent to the Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid, Jorge Rodrigo, who a day before He also requested via letter the convening of the commission.

However, ministerial sources wanted to emphasize that the Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez, in statements to the media on October 4 from Seville, already announced the next call for this commission to follow up on progress in the Madrid Commuter Plan. .

Be that as it may, Lucas underlines in the letter the Government's "will" to "collaborate with the Community of Madrid, maintaining the necessary periodic meetings to be able to share with full transparency the progress and development of the plan." Thus, he recognizes that it is now “necessary” to hold a new meeting.

For this reason, the Government has called the Community of Madrid to the holding of the Monitoring Commission on October 24 at 5:00 p.m., in a meeting that will take place at the headquarters of this Ministry and two points on the order of the day: monitoring of the Madrid Commuter Plan, and the “requests and questions”.

In this way, the acting Executive thus responds to the claim of the Community of Madrid, which regretted that there has been "barely one meeting of the Monitoring Commission" since last March, and which denounced that the "bad operation" of the Cercanías network "affects everything and harms citizens".
