The Government of Argentina has announced a veto throughout the public administration for the use of inclusive language and the gender perspective, under the argument that "it has been used as political business", just a few hours after the Ministry of Defense also confirmed a similar measure.
The presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, has explained that the measure will mean that administrations will not be able to use gender-neutral language or symbols such as the at sign or the x. "The unnecessary inclusion of women" will also be avoided, Javier Milei's spokesperson told the media.
"The language that covers all sectors is the one we use in the Castilian language, it is Spanish," justified Adorni, who does not see it necessary to introduce new "structures" to accommodate other sensitivities.
The Minister of Defense, Luis Petri, had also established on Monday "the mandatory nature of the Spanish language, in accordance with the standards of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE)", with the aim of "eliminating incorrect forms of the language" that could "generate an interpretation erroneous" and even affect the development of military operations.
"Communications in the field of National Defense must be brief, clear and concise in accordance with what is established by the corresponding military regulations," states a resolution from the Ministry, which warns of measures against those who fail to comply with these new guidelines.
