Mark Spitz and the mustache with the seven medals

He was the star of the Munich '72 Olympic Games with his seven gold medals in swimming. This sporting feat and his Apollonian presence would make him the protagonist of an edition marked by the Palestinian attack against Israeli athletes that he also raised fears for his safety.

Spitz was Jewish and it was decided to discreetly evacuate him when he, after all, had fulfilled his mission. Much has been made of his striking mustache, at a time when swimmers already shaved and waxed completely. He explained that he had left it for her in high school in an act of rebellion and that it cost him so much effort (four months to grow up) that he decided to keep it. In Munich, the Soviets asked him about him and he answered that he swam more aerodynamically that way. It seems that someone believed it.
