Marc Giró, National Communication Award 2023

The journalist Marc Giró has been awarded today with the 2023 National Communication Award "for having known how to incorporate with close and relaxed language those topics that were not normally talked about in entertainment programs" and "for having revolutionized the radio and television panorama with his self-conscious and groundbreaking way of doing things.

The awards jury has also highlighted his ability to "normalize information about culture in a humorous program" and for "having created a personal brand that mixes frivolity and humor but also depth, becoming a benchmark in the field of the Catalan media”, as reported this morning during the press conference on the Government's agreements.

Other winners of this edition were the TV3 journalist Txell Feixas in the category of Journalism and Communication Media, the 3Cat platform in the Advertising and Corporate Communication category, and Editorial Gavarres in the Proximity Communication category.

In the case of Feixas, she has been recognized as an "example of rigorous, brave and committed journalism" and her professional career has been highlighted, especially for her coverage of conflicts, as well as "her ability to explain the consequences of these and to make visible the role of women in the areas in which it works".

The award for 3Cat was awarded "for having launched a campaign that it described as innovative, original and inclusive" and for its commitment to "recovering generations that had been orphaned of content in Catalan and maintaining those that have had TV3 for years as a reference". Finally, the publishing house Grup Gavarres has been distinguished for being an "example of quality journalism" and for making with its publications "an exercise in the recovery of historical memory."

Marc Giró (Barcelona, 1974) is one of the most popular voices on RAC1, where he has presented the 'Vostè primer' space since 2019 (Monday to Friday at 1 p.m.). The journalist also currently presents the space 'LateXou' on La 2 (midnight on Monday) and on RTVE Play after the success achieved in its first season during its broadcast on RTVE Catalunya. Precisely for this space the Ondas award was awarded in its last edition.

The popular communicator also currently collaborates in the space 'Està passant' on TV3, and has previously been a collaborator on numerous programs such as 'Zapeando', 'En el aire', 'Espejo Público' or 'Divendres'. A journalist specializing in fashion and style, Giró was fashion editor of Marie Claire magazine for 17 years.

The award ceremony will take place on January 22 at the Casino L'Aliança del Poble Nou and will be presided over by the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès. In addition, it will be a tribute to radio because this 2024 will be the centenary of this medium in Catalonia. The Generalitat's National Communication Awards are the highest national institutional recognition in terms of the media and Catalan advertising and corporate communication in the Catalan language.
