Mancini leaves Italy and signs for Saudi Arabia

Italian coach Roberto Mancini is already the new coach of the Saudi Arabian soccer team, replacing Frenchman Hervé Renard, the Saudi Football Association reported today through a video shared on its official X account (formerly Twitter).

"I have made history in Europe, now it's time to make history with Saudi," Mancini says in English in the one-minute clip published by the Arab sports entity and in which a quick tribute is paid to the figure of the Italian and his successes as a technician.

The Saudi national team account also announced that this Monday they will sign the contracts and hold a press conference to disclose the details of the agreement and the Saudi national team program for the coming years.

The news comes two weeks after the Italian Football Federation announced Mancini's resignation from his position as national coach and that he was looking for a new coach with less than a year to go before the start of Euro2024.

Mancini, who did not explain the reasons for his resignation, made the decision after having remained in office at a critical moment in the history of Italian football, when he failed to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup despite being the current European champion. , in what was the second consecutive World Cup without the presence of the 'Azzurra'.

The coach leaves the 'azzurro' bench after 61 games, with a total baggage of 39 wins, 13 draws and 9 losses.

The incorporation of the Italian at the head of the Arab team comes five months after his predecessor, the French Hervé Renard, terminated his contract with the Saudi federation to take the reins of the French women's soccer team, which was eliminated yesterday from the World Cup on penalties against Australia.
