Lufthansa leaves thousands of passengers on the ground when its computer system crashes

A large-scale failure in Lufthansa's computer systems has grounded thousands of passengers and forced the cancellation of an unknown number of flights scheduled for this Wednesday. The problem has originated in the work of a railway in Frankfurt, in which several fiber optic cables of the Deutsche Telekom telephone company have been damaged.

The work to solve the problem will last until late afternoon, the company explained, which threatens to turn the entire day into chaos. In fact, the problem has forced the airspace operator to divert all flights headed to Frankfurt, the country's largest airport, since scheduled flights do not take off and plane parking lots are full.

The company has asked travelers to travel by train and then ask for a ticket refund.

In the photos and videos of several German airports -Frankfurt and Munich mainly- thousands of passengers were seen waiting to complete their boarding. In social networks they report that the ruling has forced the company to organize the boarding of the planes by hand and that it could not digitally process the luggage.

Although the blackout has had the biggest impact in Germany, other airports such as the British ones are also experiencing problems this morning. In total, the group has around 700 aircraft, making it the largest airline in Europe by fleet size.
