Months after sharing the stage with the actress Meryl Streep, Princess of the Arts 2023 award, this Friday Letizia went to the headquarters of the Film Academy, in Madrid, to attend the meeting between the American director Martin Scorsese (Princess of Arts award Asturias of the Arts 2018) and the Spanish director Rodrigo Cortés.

Letizia is a great admirer of Scorsese, as was evident in Oviedo when she accompanied him to the exhibition that, on the occasion of the awards ceremony, took place in the old Weapons Factory in the capital of the Principality. She is also a good friend of Cortés, whom she has visited on some of his filming. Scorsese is the executive producer of Escape, Cortés' latest film starring Mario Casas.

Scorsese arrived in Madrid last Thursday from Rome where he met with Pope Francis with whom he maintains a close relationship and with whom he spoke about the possibility of filming a new film about Jesus Christ. A meeting between him and Cortés, open only to members of the Film Academy chaired by Fernando Mendez-Leite, was scheduled for this Friday.

Shortly after 12 noon, the Queen arrived at the Academy, located on Zurbano Street in Madrid, and like any other academic she entered the premises and sat in the first row of the auditorium, in front of the stage where Scorsese performed. intervened in a talk with Cortés. Pablo Berger, Paula Ortiz, Borja Cobeaga, Paco Delgado, Pilar Castro, Elena Anaya, Irene Escolar, Candela Peña, Eugenio Mira, Mariano Barroso, Fernando Colomo, Álvaro Longoria, Daniel Monzón and Jorge Guerricaechevarría were among those attending the meeting.

Scorsese's latest film, The Moon Killers, is nominated in ten categories for the Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Leading Actress for Lily Gladstone, who has made history by becoming the first indigenous actress in win the Golden Globe in this category. In 2007, Martin Scorsese won the Oscar for Best Director for The Departed, which also won the statuette for Best Picture. With his latest nomination for Best Director for The Moon Killers, he has become the living director with the highest number of nominations in Oscar history, with a total of 10, surpassing Steven Spielberg's nine.
