La Zarzuela excludes kings Juan Carlos and Sofía in Leonor's swearing-in

The King's parents, Princess Leonor's paternal grandparents, will not be in Congress on October 31 during the Constitutional swearing-in ceremony. King Juan Carlos due to the discomfort that his presence at an institutional event would entail, from which he has been voluntarily removed since before exiling himself in Abu Dhabi, and Queen Sofia due to her own decision, accepting that it is up to the Kings, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía the protagonist of the day.

La Zarzuela made public yesterday the official agenda of the royal family for next week, detailing the institutional events – Congress and Royal Palace – in which the Kings, the Princess and Infanta Sofía, the main protagonists, will be present, but there is no record the family celebration called late in the afternoon at the El Pardo palace, in which Kings Juan Carlos and Sofía will be present, considering that it is a private activity.

Queen Sofía, who was in Congress at the proclamation of Felipe VI, will not be present, on this occasion, in any of the institutional events called by the oath of Princess Leonor; nor will Leonor's maternal grandparents, Jesús Ortiz and Paloma Rocasolano, be there.

A little over a month ago, Zarzuela made public that in addition to the institutional events on the occasion of Princess Leonor's swearing in of the Constitution before the Cortes, a family and private celebration would take place “later” at the El Pardo palace. . On that occasion she did it so as not to take away his prominence. and in this, finally, the decision was made to exclude him so that her presence did not alter the functioning of the ceremony, with everyone aware, both Zarzuela and King Juan Carlos himself, of the controversy that always accompanies her presence in Spain. .

All in all, the emeritus accepted the invitation to celebrate the Princess's coming of age with his family, but the fact of having to give up sleeping in the Zarzuela caused a new disagreement. It should be noted that, at the time, King Juan Carlos himself announced that during his stays in Spain he would not use any publicly owned residence, but, on this occasion, he requested to be able to sleep in what he considers his home, but that, to all In effect, it is also the headquarters of the Head of State. Without even considering the possibility of sleeping in a hotel or in a private home, King Juan Carlos has chosen to leave Madrid just after the celebration called at eight in the afternoon. Invited by the Kings, in addition to Juan Carlos and Sofía, the infantas Elena and Cristina will attend, with some of their children; Infanta Margarita, her husband and her children; the children of the deceased Infanta Pilar, the dukes of Calabria; Queen Anne Mary of Greece, with her daughter, Alexia, and Princess Irene. The Queen's family will also attend: Jesús Ortiz and his wife, Ana Togores; Paloma Rocasolano, Telma Ortiz, with her husband and her two daughters, and other relatives.
