La Vall de Bianya assures that it will give land for the school when Educación undertakes to build it

Conflict between Vall de Bianya, in La Garrotxa (Girona) and the Department of Education for the construction of a school in the municipality.

Sources from the City Council assure that they will give up the land to carry it out, when there is a commitment from the Department to build it.

The City Council regrets the words of the councilor, Anna Simó, in which she stated a week ago in Olot that the council had not given up the space to hold the school.

The mayor of Vall de Bianya, Santi Reixach, has charged against Simó and believes that "perhaps she was misinformed".

The mayor says that the City Council has some land ready for the school that it bought about six months ago. However, Reixach first demands a commitment from Educació that the center will be built before handing them over.

The municipality meets two of the three requirements to have a school. On the one hand, it has enough children and young people in the town to open it, and on the other hand, it would not force any of its surroundings to close.

The problem is that there is no building available. For this reason, the process takes longer and this is where it is necessary to reach an agreement between administrations.

In this case, the City Council transfers some land that it owns where the new center can be built so that the Generalitat can carry it out.

La Vall de Bianya acquired some land for 400,000 euros about six months ago and "they are ready for when Educació wants to build the school."

The problem, however, is that there has been no formal transfer by the council to the Government and that was the reason given by the minister of the sector, Anna Simó, to justify not unblocking the situation.

The City Council regrets Simó's words and makes it clear that the land is available but they ask for a commitment from the Department.

"It was said that we had not given them up, but we have them ready. The problem is that first they must tell us that the school will be there, if not, we cannot give them up," says the mayor, Santi Reixach.

Reixach acknowledges that there are constant meetings with the Department, the next one on April 3 in which they hope to make progress.

This situation affects 117 children and young people from the municipality who must travel to surrounding municipalities to be able to go to class.

In some cases they must go to Sant Jaume de Llierca, which is 25 minutes by bus from Vall de Bianya. Therefore, the Bianya Family Association regrets that "everything is stuck" and asks that it be resolved.

“These children and young people are distributed among five different schools and this means that they do not know each other and neither do the families. In the end the problem is that the Bianya Valley ends up being a dormitory town,” explains entity member Adrià Homs.

In addition, Homs remembers that one of the towns where students from the Vall de Bianya go is Olot, where some families cannot take their children to centers close to home because there is no room and they have to go to the other side. town.

Homs remembers that the boys and girls of the Vall de Bianya have the same options as the rest of entering the schools of Olot. For this reason, he says, with the new school the places for students from Vall de Bianya could be freed up in favor of those from Olot and the ratio in some centers could be lowered.
