This is how Junts per Catalunya has reacted to the designation of President Pere Aragonès as the Republican Left candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat. The person who made these considerations was the vice president and spokesperson of JxCat, Josep Rius, who pointed out on Ràdio 4 that "everything has its moment" and has assured that post-convergent training is "totally oriented and with every vocation to work in challenges and providing solutions to current problems. "We are not in electoral mode like others may be," he summarized.
For now, the party of Jordi Turull and Laura Borràs has not chosen any candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat, although there were party officials who called for him to set a profile in this last year of the legislature that, in theory, remains. In this regard, Rius has pointed out that "when it is time, the national leadership of Junts will make the decision of who is the candidate for the elections." In any case, he has also said that "it would not surprise anyone" if, when the time comes, many cadres and militants of the organization ask former president Carles Puigdemont to appear if the amnesty is already in force and his situation has been resolved and that That would mean the return of the "president of the Generalitat in exile with all the political value that entails."
In the event that Puigdemont cannot present himself, because the amnesty has not yet been applied, the JxCat spokesperson considers that there are plenty of leaders in his party to lead the candidacy. In the event that the criminal oblivion does not come into force in time or that there are early elections, one of the names being considered to head Junts is that of former councilor Josep Rull, now president of the national council, although there are also other members of the leadership with aspirations, as is the case of former minister Jaume Giró.
