Junts wants stealing mobile phones to be punished with prison to stop multiple recidivism

Junts wants the theft of mobile phones to be punished with sentences of up to three years in prison. The party has registered a bill in Congress to reform the Penal Code and thus be able to combat multiple recidivism.

For some time now, the mayors of Junts, especially in the Maresme area, have closed ranks to confront this criminal phenomenon and put an end to the insecurity that, they say, exists in many municipalities, an issue that will be key in the face of the Catalan elections of May 12. According to Carles Puigdemont's party, multiple recidivism must be treated rigorously because avoiding it only strengthens the discourse of the extreme right.

Junts endorses the proposal of the Barcelona bar association and brings to Congress the reform of article 235 of the Penal Code. He proposes punishing thefts with sentences of between one and three years in prison if the stolen objects are mobile computing, communication, or electronic or technological devices. Recidivism would be an aggravating circumstance.

In the explanatory statement, Junts recalls that the previous modification of the Penal Code, in 2022, has not served to reduce crime and recidivism rates, which continue to grow day by day.

The training justifies this legal reform by the need to open a rigorous debate on multiple recidivism. If it were not done, says the text of the proposition, it would be giving wings to the discourse of the extreme right.
