The next plenary session of the Valencian Government will approve granting the Distinction of the Generalitat Valenciana to Julián García Antón, the janitor of the residential block of Valencia that on February 22 was burned by the fire that left ten fatalities but whose work was key to saving many neighbors.
The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, and the mayor of València, María José Catalá, have agreed to recognize the goalkeeper "for his exemplary and risky behavior" during the afternoon of Thursday last week, when the buildings burned residential areas of the Campanar neighborhood, the Consell has announced.
According to the Decree by which the Generalitat Distinction was created, this award may be received “collectively or individually by those who save people at serious risk as a result of a catastrophe or any other situation, or who collaborate decisively in the reestablishment of normality in damaged areas, as well as those people, both physical and legal, who have stood out for their values of coexistence, humanism, commitment to solidarity and helping others.
Likewise, the plenary session of the Consell will especially recognize "the work carried out by all the professionals who participated in the tragic event and who carried out diligent and commendable work."
The tributes to the victims and those affected do not stop these days. This Friday the mascletaes begin in the Valencia City Hall square on the occasion of the Fallas and they will do so after a minute of silence in tribute to the 10 fatalities of the Campanar fire and as a sign of respect towards the rest affected.
Thus, in this first mascletà, which as expected will bring together a multitude of citizens in the square, the typical musical atmosphere prior to the shooting will not be heard. And shortly before 2 p.m. a voice-over will call for silence that will last for one minute. Once this time is over, the Fallera Mayor of València, María Estela Arlandís, will give the order for the start of the mascletà.
