Israel reduces death toll in Hamas attack from 1,400 to 1,200

The Israeli Foreign Ministry last night reduced the number of people killed in the attack by the Islamist group Hamas against Israel, on October 7, to 1,200. The previous figure was 1,400.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman, Lior Haiat, published several statements last night referring to that attack that sparked the war between Israel and Hamas in which he referred to the new figure, although he did not offer more details.

In a condemnation of a UNESCO resolution, Haiat wrote that "the resolution totally ignores the October 7 massacre perpetrated by Hamas terrorists, who brutally murdered some 1,200 people in cold blood and kidnapped 240, including babies, children, women and the elderly".

In another statement cited by the local press, Haiat wrote: "Around 1,200 is the official number of victims of the October 7 massacre."

In the 36 days of armed conflict, more than 11,000 Palestinians have died, including 4,506 children, 3,027 women and 678 elderly people, while some 27,500 have been injured, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, administered by the political arm of Hamas.
