A man is in critical condition after being found half-buried in the snow after being hit by an avalanche near the Vall de Núria sanctuary, in Queralbs, Girona.

The emergency services received the notice shortly before 1:00 p.m. this Sunday, when a group of hikers making the route from Núria to the Coma de Vaca shelter along the Camí dels Enginyers located the body of a person half buried in a canal. snow, at more than 2,000 meters of altitude.

The Generalitat Bombers then activated a helicopter with members of the Special Actions Group (GRAE) from the Olot base, who once reached the place indicated by the hikers, accessed the victim. The emergency personnel have verified that the man was in a state of frostbite and that he did not respond to stimuli, so resuscitation maneuvers have begun.

The Firefighters indicate in a statement that, once the man was monitored, he was extracted with the crane from the helicopter and taken to a parking lot in Queralbs. There, a second helicopter from the rescue unit of the La Seu d'Urgell base (Lleida), in which a doctor from the Medical Emergency System (SEM) was also traveling, has joined the evacuation work. The injured man has been transferred in critical condition in this device to the Bellvitge hospital, in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat.

In the area of ​​​​the event, a group of firefighters assisted by sniffer dogs have inspected the place due to the possibility that there were more victims trapped in the snow, an eventuality that has been ruled out. Mossos troops have also participated in these works.

The Meteocat meteorological service yesterday issued a yellow risk warning due to the risk of avalanches in the area where this event was recorded.
