IES La Pineda de Badalona selected by the European Space Agency to launch a satellite

The 1st year science students of La Pineda Baccalaureate in Badalona (Barcelonès Nord) have been selected from more than 100 Catalan centers to be able to launch the mini-satellite that they have been designing during this academic year.

The launch will take place next Saturday, April 20 at the Lleida airport where the students will have the opportunity to check if their CANSAT, a mini-satellite the size of a soda can, is capable of collecting data from the environment, falling controlled by deploying the parachute and correctly sending the data via radio. Once the launch has been carried out and the data obtained, the participants will analyze the results obtained and share them with other members of the scientific community next Wednesday, April 24 at the Higher School of Industrial, Aerospace and Audiovisual Engineering of Terrassa (UPC -ESEIAAT) .

Two groups from the center participate: BIOPINSAT and CANSECURESAT. The first will analyze the impact of temperature and pressure variations on seed growth, while the second group works on the physical and telematic security of the launch.

According to Marina Blanco, teacher responsible for the project: "Through this initiative, students have the opportunity to grow their interest and knowledge of science in a more tangible way, promoting cooperation and teamwork." Luisa Sánchez, Baccalaureate coordinator and head of the Institute's Experimental Department, states: "Being selected for this project again makes us very excited as a center. We are betting a lot on science and we want to continue participating in projects as motivating as this proposal. the ESA".
