Iberdrola earned 4,339 million in 2022, 11% more

Iberdrola earned 4,339 million in 2022, 11.6% more. Billing climbed to 5,950 million euros, 37% more, according to the information that the Spanish energy company has deposited with the CNMV on Wednesday.

The company highlights that the year was marked by a significant investment effort that increased the amount of this item by 13%, up to 10,730 million. 38% went to the EU (with close to 3,000 million to Spain and 1,200 million to other countries such as Germany, France or Portugal); 25% to the United States; 20% to Latin America and 13% to the United Kingdom.

This has increased the net financial debt to 43,749 million euros, 11% more, and the ratio between debt and net worth has gone from 70.1% in 2021 to 76% in 2022. Even so, the The company explains its effort to shore up its balance sheet in the period and ensures that "the group's liquidity has stood at 23,500 million euros, which would allow it to cover 26 months of financial needs without resorting to the market and the average life of its debt exceeds 6 years."

“In a year marked by the energy crisis and the difficulties in global supply chains, we have increased investments by 13%, to almost 11,000 million euros, to continue growing solidly, generating more activity and employment and reducing dependency of fossil fuels”, commented the president of the company, Ignacio Sánchez Galán.

With the investments already made, the group closed 2022 with a renewable installed capacity of around 40,000 MW worldwide. It currently has 7,675 MW under construction that will be operational in the next four years. Of these, almost 3,500 MW correspond to offshore wind projects in the US, UK, Germany and France.

Gross operating profit (ebitda) increased by 10%, to 13,228 million, driven by growth in the US and Brazil, which offset the lower result in Spain, where regulatory and tax measures and high energy costs, that have not been transferred to customers, caused the result to fall by 19%.

Regarding the tax contribution, the group contributed 7,500 million euros to the public coffers of the different countries in which it operates, of which 2,600 million went to Spain, although the company has not yet detailed the amount allocated to the new special tax for energy companies.

Iberdrola has announced a supplementary remuneration of 0.31 euros gross per share, to which must be added the interim dividend of 0.18 euros gross per share paid in January.

Looking ahead to 2023, Iberdrola estimates net profit growth of 8-10%, or around 5% including the new income tax in Spain. And investments of 11,000 million euros that will increase installed capacity by 3,000 MW and increase the base of regulated assets, which by 2022 already exceeded 39,000 million euros.
