In the town of Avià next to Berga, in the Berguedà region, we find this monument dedicated to the children of this town who died during the Spanish Civil War.
It is a montage made next to the cemetery by the Basque sculptor Javier Olaizola, which we can see in detail in this series of photographs in La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos.
The sculpture is titled Ahotsa and is also intended to be a tribute to the victims of Francoism. It is a sound work whose objective is to return the voice to the people from whom it was stolen, according to the intention given by the artist.
The sculpture is made with oak beams and has an internal iron structure that runs through it and from which 13 iron bars hang. With the wind, these produce different sounds, hence giving a voice to the deceased.
In this way, the memory of all those people who lost their lives during the war and who suffered repression during the dictatorship is kept alive.
