How the subscription model encourages sustainable consumption

On November 25, one of the most important dates in the world in the field of purchases is celebrated: Black Friday. Within the framework of this day -one in which the largest number of purchases are made- Simplr wants to remember the importance of promoting a more responsible consumption and proposes the subscription as a sustainable alternative.

In this sense, the consequences of overconsumption for the planet are alarming and this is shown, among others, by the Greenpeace report, Black Friday. Black day for the planet. The report determines that with the current rate of consumption - intensified on days like Black Friday or Cyber Monday, 1.7 planets are needed to cover consumer demand. If the planet's consumption were that of the most industrialized countries, the figure would be more than three planets a year and would reach five planets in the case of the United States.

Faced with these data and with the intention of changing the current consumption paradigm towards a more sustainable one, Simplr, in addition to being the first to offer in the same marketplace all the products and services necessary for daily life in a pay-per-use model, wants to promote responsible consumption by facilitating the contracting and cancellation of the same in all the categories it offers, electronics or mobility, among others.

A pioneer in the circular economy, the company proposes a change in the pattern of consumption that prioritizes use over acquisition, reuse instead of discarding, and paying a subscription instead of buying. In short, a pay-per-use model in which consumers only pay for what they need for as long as they need it.

In this way, Simplr contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) established in 2015 by the General Assembly of the United Nations with the aim of building a better future for all before the year 2030. Simplr's mission is framed within SDG 12: Guarantee sustainable consumption and production patterns.

In the words of Ángel Bou, CEO

Raising awareness and showing the benefits of consumption by subscription or pay per use is essential in order to promote the circular economy, the best consumption model for a sustainable future. Currently, the consumption paradigm is based on cultural and social foundations that encourage the possession and accumulation of goods, causing excessive use of our limited natural resources and an excessive growth of the carbon footprint.

Bou is emphatic in pointing out the urgency of this evolution in consumption habits: “We must change the current consumption paradigm as soon as possible. The take-make-waste model is unsustainable and citizens, companies and institutions have to bet decisively on more sustainable consumption. At this point, the subscription becomes the perfect solution by being more respectful of the environment and promoting the circular economy.”

Simplr is a platform that allows access to any product or service through a subscription model and easy activation and deactivation. This Spanish company, a pioneer in the field of circular economy and the first to offer in the same marketplace all the products and services necessary for our daily lives, was founded in 2020 by a team of three executives with previous experience in technology companies such as Google. , Apple or Zuora and in venture capital firms such as Inveready or Antai. After raising a round of financing of 4.5 million euros, Simplr launched its platform in June 2021 and currently offers, in a pay-per-use model, more than a thousand products and services in the Electronics, Mobility and Home categories. through agreements with more than 200 brands.
