Home buying and selling picks up in Catalonia in October after four months of decline

The sale and purchase of housing in Catalonia has broken the negative balance of four consecutive months of decline, and has registered 9% of operations compared to September, according to provisional data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) in the Transmission Statistics of Property Rights.

Catalonia is one of the autonomous communities that registers an increase in the month of October, with a total of 7,274 home purchase and sale operations, and that follows a similar rhythm to that given at the national level with an increase of 4% in relation to September.

The figure for home sales in October, however, is lower than that shown in May, the last month with a positive balance, in which 9,000 transactions were recorded, and which was followed by four consecutive months of decline in a context of rise. of interest rates and the Euribor.

Despite the rebound, the interannual variation remains negative at both the regional, provincial and national levels. In all provinces, home sales fell compared to the previous year, with Lleida with the biggest drop of all with 18.1%, followed by Barcelona with 11.9%, and Tarragona and Girona with a decrease of 9. .6 and 9.1% respectively compared to October 2022.

At the national level, the year-on-year drop in home sales stands at 11% compared to October of the previous year, although it has increased by 4% when compared to September figures. Only five autonomous communities were the only ones that saw increases, with Navarra, Extremadura and Asturias in the lead.
