The match between Granada and Athletic Club, corresponding to matchday 16 of the EA Sports League, was suspended due to the death of a fan as a result of a cardiorespiratory arrest suffered in the stands of the Nuevo Los Cármenes stadium.
The duel referee, Miguel Ángel Ortiz Arias, gave the order to stop the match when several fans warned of the complications that one of the fans was suffering, a situation that Unai Simón first noticed. The goalkeeper addressed the linesman, a gesture that led to applause from the Nasrid fans for the Athletic player.
The match was stopped by the referee in the 18th minute and after several minutes of waiting, both teams retired to the locker rooms. The health services present in the stadium, in addition to the medical staff of the two teams, tried to revive the spectator, but finally the stadium's public address system reported the cancellation of the match.
Later, LaLiga reported the death of the fan after failing to overcome cardiac arrest. "Granada CF vs. Athletic Bilbao has been suspended due to the sad death of a fan at the Nuevo los Cármenes Stadium. We accompany his family and friends, as well as all the Granada CF fans, in their feelings," the employers' association indicated. which Athletic did moments later.

LaLiga will soon inform about the resumption of the match. At the time of the stoppage of the match the score was 0-1 in favor of Athletic Club thanks to a goal from Iñaki Williams in the 6th minute.
