Passengers know that at some point during their flight they will have to activate airplane mode, a quick way to disable wireless communications from a phone, computer or other device. Crews and airlines recommend sticking to this habit for one simple reason: to help keep pilot-controller communication clear. And by the way, conserve the battery that we have in our electronic device.

Airplane mode has some drawbacks. The main one, that all responsibility falls on the passenger. That means trusting that person will activate this option when he travels on the plane. Another problem, that some users (less advanced) do not know how to put it.

Google wants to remedy it. For this reason, the technology works in a connected flight mode, a system that automatically changes the configuration of the mobile, without the need for the user to do it manually, as is the case with airplane mode, according to ParkiFly.

This mode works based on the measurement of several elements: flight, location, altitude, pressure, speed, and background noise levels. According to this means, it switches to connected flight mode when it considers that it is inside an airplane and recognizes the particular noises, pressures and movements that usually precede a takeoff.

Depending on each of these variables, it will cause all our wireless connections to be deactivated or not. The tech giant is also working on sub-modes, which can provide different and precise settings, capable of adapting to certain flight circumstances.

In addition, the connected flight mode can intelligently adjust the WiFi settings based on the quality of the available network.

To enjoy this new system will have to wait. It is a patent still in development and the company has not confirmed whether it will finally hit the market or a possible launch date.
