Goodman will rent spaces from the former Nissan in 2024

The reindustrialization of the land occupied by Nissan in the Barcelona Free Trade Zone continues to advance. The general director of Goodman Spain, Ignacio García-Cuenca, announced this Tuesday that during next year the logistics multinational hopes to begin marketing, on a rental basis, part of the spaces of the two warehouses that it will build there.

During the celebration of the second day of the Barcelona New Economy Week (Bnew), García-Cuenca reported that the Australian company is in talks with several firms, both local and international. “The spaces will be mainly for logistics. Regional, last mile and to supply the demand of the port of Barcelona,” she said. To “optimize the land”, Goodman will replicate the “high-rise construction” model that he has already implemented in Molins de Rei and Castellbisbal. That is, they will be ships with more than one floor.

In addition to logistics, in the old Nissan there will be a decarbonization hub and Silence, dedicated to electric mobility and current European leader in sales of motorcycles of this type. Through a round table moderated by the State delegate in the Free Trade Zone Consortium (CZFB), Pere Navarro, Bnew brought together many of the protagonists of the reindustrialization of the space.

Carlos Sotelo, CEO of Silence, considered that Barcelona, Catalonia and Spain can “lead an industrial opportunity” such as electromobility. In addition, he exposed delays in the implementation of anti-pollution regulations, such as low-emission zones. “They go against this new industry,” he argued.

For his part, Carles Soler, head of finance at QEV, one of the companies that lead the decarbonization hub, said that since the Nissan plant “was already manufacturing an electric model” it is now “prepared to welcome others.”

As Pere Navarro also did, Joan Roca, executive president of Roca Junyent, highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration in the process to reach an agreement. “Sensitivity is required between the public and private sectors,” concluded Roca.
