Girona reflected in a stone bridge

I share in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos these photographs taken while I was running with my sister in Girona and I noticed the reflections on the stone bridge.

The snapshots are taken from the Plaza de Catalunya with our shadow across the river and, in the background, the Pont de Pedra that crosses the Onyar, where it creates a geometric game of reflections in its waters.

This bridge, belonging to the Inventori del Patrimoni Arquitectònic de Catalunya, was built during the reign of Isabel II. It replaced a previous one of medieval origin known as Pont de Sant Francesc or Pont de Frasmenors.

The construction of the Pont de Pedra de Girona began in 1850, after moving the market to the Palanca d'en Vila. Two years later, in 1852, the works stopped, and it was not until 1854 when they were resumed.

Although the bridge ended up being inaugurated in 1856, the passage of time and new trends have subjected it to some renovations. Currently, it is one of the city's tourist attractions.
