'Furiosa: From the Mad Max Saga' will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival

The post-apocalyptic future of the Mad Max saga will once again set foot on the Croisette with the world premiere of Furiosa: From the Mad Max Saga, the new installment of the successful franchise directed by George Miller. Nine years after Mad Max: Fury Road, winner of six Oscars, the veteran Australian director will attend the Cannes Film Festival to present his prequel, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke. All of them will be at the event on Wednesday, May 15, for the screening of the film at the Grand Théâtre Lumière.

The story follows a young Furiosa, snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers, who falls into the hands of a large Horde of Bikers led by Warlord Dementus, the villain played by Hemsworth, who looks unrecognizable with a bushy beard. Devastating the Páramo, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortal Joe. As the two Tyrants fight for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she gathers the means to find her way home.

The saga created by Miller began in 1979 with a young Mel Gibson in Mad Max. Highway savages. Two years later the sequel would arrive: Mad Max 2. The Road Warrior, also with Gibson at the helm of this western. The third installment would come in 1985 with Mad Max 3. Beyond Thunderdome, with Tina Turner accompanying the Australian actor. And we had to wait until 2015 for a fourth part with Tom Hardy taking over from Gibson as the protagonist and with a powerful Charlize Theron as Furiosa. The film was the highest-grossing of all, grossing nearly $400 million worldwide. The new film will land in Spanish cinemas on May 24.
