Francis Roig leaves Rafa Nadal's team and starts a new project as coach

Francis Roig, who until now had been Rafa Nadal's coach along with Toni Nadal, Carlos Moyá and recently Marc López, leaves the team to embark on a new professional project also as a coach.

The Catalan coach has been very excited for all these years. “For me it has been a real pleasure and honor to work with Rafa and the rest of the team. We never thought we could get so many results and have such a long career with him, but Rafa is a phenomenon and he makes everything look easy", he declared.

During his time as a tennis player, Roig achieved his greatest success in doubles, where he won nine titles and played another 12 finals. In 1999 he retired from singles, and was active for two more seasons in doubles until 2001. In 2005 he began collaborating with Toni Nadal to guide Rafa Nadal's professional career. He has also coached other players such as Albert Costa, Alberto Berasategui and Feliciano López.

Rafa Nadal, for his part, also wanted to thank the work of his coach up to now. “Francis has been an important person in my career and I am very grateful to him for all these years of work and friendship. Francis is a great coach who knows tennis very well and has helped me a lot to get better and better. I only have words of gratitude and I wish him all the luck in the world in his new project."

After 18 seasons in the Majorcan tennis player's team, Roig will take another path from now on. "I have made this decision after thinking about it a lot and I understand that the time has come to start a new project that includes more than one player and that allows me to form my working group for the coming years," he explained.

The Catalan has described Rafa as "a legend of the sport", and has said that he only has words of gratitude for him and his entire team. "Friendship remains and we will see each other and enjoy ourselves, as we have always done, on the circuit", he concluded.
