The Pilar d'Almenara is located 459 meters high in the Almenara mountain range, in the Urgell region. It is at the top of this mountain where we can find this Christian tower.
The tower belongs to an old castle documented in 1139, which dominated the southern end of the plateau, with a great panoramic view of Urgell and all the castles in its surroundings.
The different perspectives of the photographs give us an idea of the extent to which this tower was strategic in order to dominate the environment and monitor movements.
The place name Almenara is of Arabic origin and means, precisely, watchtower. It is a work declared Cultural Asset of National Interest.
