The former president of the Government José María Aznar assured this Tuesday in Alicante that a possible amnesty law that favors those convicted in the case related to the Catalan process "ends the constitutional system."
During a conference before the Chamber Business Club, a business forum organized by the Alicante Chamber of Commerce, Aznar insisted that the amnesty "has no place in the constitution" and "is a payment by Sánchez to former terrorists and Catalan separatists so that continue in the Government".
In his opinion, this measure "what it says is that those who opposed the coup, starting with the king, acted on behalf of an oppressive state that deserves to be condemned."
According to this reasoning, the amnesty "not only erases the sentence, but it erases the crime; it is as if nothing had happened, but it is even worse, because by erasing the crime, what it does is legitimize those who did it. In the opinion of the former popular leader, the Constitutional Court "is not created to be a legislative or constitutive power, so it cannot say that the Constitution says what it does not say."
The also president of the FAES Foundation considers that Spain is "in an extreme and critical situation" due to the amnesty and a possible consultation on the self-determination of some communities, and has regretted that politicians experience "immediacy", since it is "the contrary to thinking about stability and the future".
Regarding the most conflictive issues in the international situation, Aznar considers that "if the Western world came out badly from the war in Ukraine, there would be a very big problem", but "if Israel comes out badly from this war, which is based on Gaza , but also in its extension towards Iran, which is the capital point of the issue, we are entering a scenario of major problems."
Aznar believes that the United States "is being challenged" by Russia, China and Iran, and "you cannot understand what is happening in Gaza without understanding that." In his opinion, it is "very difficult" to make a ceasefire "when someone wants another to not exist", which is why he has recommended that Israel defend itself: "If not, any aggressor will be repaid anywhere in the world." a "negative fact for those who want democracies to develop."
Finally, regarding the elections in Argentina, won in the first round by the current Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, he insisted that in the South American country "everything is subsidized."
