Flood of homophobic comments to two Betis players for going with a bag to a wedding

The Real Betis Balompié players Aitor Ruibal and Borja Iglesias have been forced to defend themselves against a series of homophobic messages they have received after publishing an image in which they appear posing with a bag next to Víctor Ruiz, Víctor Camarasa and Juanmi, all invited to the wedding of a member of the club's technical team.

After receiving those malicious words, both players responded to the comments with proclamations for diversity and free love, a message that seems to have yet to sink in among the followers of some soccer teams.

Ruibal used Twitter to condemn any homophobic act and stressed "the importance of maintaining respect for anyone, regardless of their sexual orientation." "Those who at this point continue to display behavior of this type urgently need help. They have the problem because of their intolerance and their complexes," he added.

For his part, Borja Iglesias has done the same in his profile on the social network. He first supported Ruibal's message and later wrote one condemning the comments received. "I send a lot of encouragement to those of you who are still in prehistory, it must be very difficult not to evolve and continue conditioning yourself instead of enjoying how precious life is," Iglesias urged.

Both have also appreciated the support received by their followers after the barrage of comments. The players have received a lot of support in their publications, showing that this issue has raised awareness and that the fight against homophobia has also reached the soccer fields, as was already seen in the World Cup in Qatar.
