Firefighters rescue a man trapped in the mud of the Sau swamp

This Friday, the GRAE and a ground crew of firefighters rescued a man who had sunk in the mud on the edge of the Sau reservoir (Vilanova de Sau) while he was walking. Through a tweet on X, the emergency department explained that they were able to get the man out safely.

For its part, the Espai Natural de las Guilleries-Savassona, managed by the Barcelona Provincial Council, has warned that it is dangerous to approach the edge of the Sau reservoir because the terrain is unstable and the presence of mud can generate a risk of entrapment or drowning. In fact, the Catalan Water Agency has installed panels prohibiting access for security reasons.

The Official Gazette of the Generalitat of Catalonia (Dogc) published this Friday the resolution declaring the Ter-Llobregat system, which supplies 202 municipalities of Barcelona and its metropolitan area, in a "state of emergency due to hydrological drought", as well as Girona and its surroundings.

The resolution, reported by Europa Press, takes effect from this Friday and comes after the Generalitat declared the emergency this Thursday following the decision of the Interdepartmental Drought Commission for the reduction of 100 cubic hectometers in the reserves of these reservoirs.

In the Sau reservoir, which is at 4% of its capacity, a church tower that was previously under water has surfaced.
