Figueres sanctions more than 120 scooter drivers for failing to comply with the ordinance

The Figueres City Council has fined 120 electric scooter drivers in three weeks for failing to comply with the ordinance that regulates the use of this type of vehicle in the city.

A large part of the 120 sanctions have been imposed in the city center and the most recurrent violations have been for driving on the sidewalk or pedestrian areas, for doing so with a greater number of people than permitted or for using mobile devices while driving. .

The information and sanctioning campaign started a month ago, coinciding with the final approval of the regulations. From the City Council they point out that "inappropriate conduct will continue to be reported" and that they will carry out more campaigns to combat incivility.

The new ordinance involves fines ranging between 80 euros and 1,000, depending on the seriousness of the infraction. Thus, minor offenses such as riding with more than one person on the scooter or going without lights entails a fine of 80 euros.

Driving with headphones or jumping a traffic light carries a fine of 200 euros, driving in the opposite direction, 500 euros, and doing so under the influence of drugs and alcohol carries a fine of 1,000 euros.
