Feijóo is wrong and mistakenly supports the reform of the Constitutional Court

Once the recount of votes has been carried out that has allowed the reform of the law of the Judicial Power to be approved this Wednesday in the Senate that will allow the Constitutional to be renewed and that opens the door to a progressive majority in that court, the surprise has jumped in the bench of the P.P. Since the measure has been promoted with the vote in favor of the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who collected his act as regional deputy just two months ago after the impossibility of acting as leader of the opposition as a deputy in this legislature.

Specifically, the Plenary Session of the Senate has definitively approved, in an extraordinary session, the proposal for an Organic Law to modify article 570 bis of the Organic Law of the Judiciary, which Congress approved urgently and in a single reading last Thursday, by 147 votes in favor, 110 against and 0 abstentions.

But, as soon as the news broke, PP sources in the Senate have clarified that the vote of its national president does not imply any change of position, but is due to a "mistake". The same, by the way, that two PSOE senators have had who have voted against the counter-reform.

Feijóo's error has not been decisive nor has it altered the final result of the vote, and from the Genoa party they have tried to take away iron by describing what happened as something "anecdotal". "He is human and he was wrong," they point out.

It has not been a placid morning for Feijóo in the Upper House since, after joining the hemicycle a few minutes before the vote, the socialist group has criticized him for not attending the previous debates. "Where is Mr. Feijóo? Working for Spain", said popular senator Fernando Martínez-Maíllo from the rostrum in response to the socialists

"You can tell when they mention how afraid they are of you. In a short time you are gaining day by day the trust and respect of many Spaniards, also of many socialists who are disappointed in you," he added.

In the aforementioned exchange, the popular spokesman for Justice in the Senate, Fernando de Rosa, has denounced the "counter-reform of the reform and the amendment of the self-amendment" and, ironically, has wondered if there will be new changes and will be disqualified from for life to the members of the CGPJ if they do not meet the deadlines or elect magistrates who do not like in Moncloa.

"The socialist group will make as many reforms, with democratic instruments, as are necessary to try to normalize the situation that you have brought to the brink of the precipice," PSOE senator Vitoria de Pablo replied. "Hindering the renewal (of the CGPJ) is a serious attack on the stability of the democratic system," the socialist caucus has snapped.

Today's is not Feijóo's first mistake in the Senate. On May 25, as soon as he took office as regional senator, the opposition leader returned to his seat, standing in the first row of seats. Only the quick intervention of the popular spokesman in the Senate, Javier Maroto, prevented the Galician from sitting in one of the armchairs intended for members of the Government.

The norm approved in the Senate now enables the governing body of the judges to elect the two people that correspond to it to renew the third of the Constitutional Court that fulfilled its mandate on June 12.

This law represents a counter-reform of the modification that the Government promoted a year ago to prevent the CGPJ from making appointments with an expired mandate.

Now, with the norm already in force, the CGPJ must choose the two names that it proposes for the third of the Constitutional Court that it has to renew from the hand of the Executive.
