The leadership of the PP has changed, but the same ones are still in charge. More deputy secretaries, new areas, but Alberto Núñez Feijóo keeps his hard core intact and concentrates more power after Miguel Tellado, his right-hand man, first in Galicia and now in Madrid, has been promoted to spokesperson in Congress.
The popular president has designed a broad leadership for the formation, more than 20 people, with representation of all tendencies of the party, led by Tellado and Macarena Montesinos as two, but also by Álvaro Pérez, in the position of coordinator of Commissions. Appointments that allow Feijóo to maintain seamless control from Genoa. Pérez, like Tellado, belongs to the closest circle of the PP leader, whom he brought from Galicia.
He is a member of what is known as “the Galician clan”, which is “the one who really rules”. In addition to Tellado and Pérez, this small team includes Marta Varela, director of Feijóo's cabinet and who, like Mar Sánchez, director of the PP's projection and image area, exerts great influence on the president. The communications director, Luis de la Matta, and one of his advisors, Marco J. Gómez, complete that group that, together with the president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, represent the maximum power.
Rueda is not the only influential baron. The Andalusian Juanma Moreno, a personal friend of Feijóo, is one of his main pillars when it comes to decision-making, while Isabel Díaz Ayuso has increased her influence in the party by placing two collaborators in the new leadership.
For his part, the president of Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, has seen his weight grow in the leadership with the appointment of the spokesperson in the Senate, Alicia García, and the vice-secretary of Health and Education, Ester Muñoz and the Aragonese Jorge Azcón , has Ana Alós in the direction.
After the “Galician clan”, the Andalusian group is the one that has the most influence. Elías Bendodo, who is no longer coordinator, is deputy secretary with the powers of electoral analysis and strategy that he had before, plus the coordination of regional and municipal policy. Juan Bravo is also in this team as head of Economy, and the incombustible Javier Arenas will be the main support of the spokesperson in the Senate. In addition, a person very close to Feijóo, who collaborated closely with Moreno, Carmen Fúnez, becomes the deputy secretary of organization.
Fúnez is, along with Esteban González Pons, two people of the absolute confidence of the president of the PP. They arrived in Genoa with him, after the Pablo Casado crisis, and they seem increasingly indispensable for Feijóo.
The party has been strengthened to face the task of opposition and preparation of the next electoral events and González Pons is Feijóo's right hand in everything that has to do with Justice matters, starting with the renewal of the CGPJ and the law. of amnesty. In this aspect, coordination with the spokesperson for the Popular Group in the European Parliament, Dolors Montserrat, is essential.
Feijóo has confirmed Cuca Gamarra as second and has given Borja Sémper, one of his signings, the position of spokesperson. Gamarra was not a person close to Feijóo when he arrived in Genoa. She maintained the spokesperson in Congress during the Casado period, but the leader of the PP chose to keep her, while appointing her general secretary. Her “work and loyalty” have meant that the popular leader has maintained his confidence in the leader, who will remain number two of the Popular Party.
