The Alicante actor Juli Mira died this morning at the age of 75, as reported by the City Council of Alcoy (Alicante), where he was born.
Mira alternated dubbing, film, theater and television throughout her career, and in 2021 she received the Generalitat Valenciana's distinction for Cultural Merit.
The Alcoy City Council has conveyed its support and solidarity to the actor's family, friends and colleagues and has reported that the funeral chapel will be installed at the Sant Jordi Mortuary.
Mira, one of the most solid actors on the Valencian acting scene, alternated between dubbing, film, theater and television, and throughout his long career he played characters, as a protagonist or supporting character, in numerous films and television series.
Self-taught actor
Prototype of a self-taught actor, his innate expressive qualities and his undeniable magnetism on stage allowed him to develop a wide acting record in productions assigned to all types of genres, recalls the Alcoy council in a statement.
He also highlights that his acting interest began to emerge during his student years, when he took his first steps as an amateur actor in the Assalla theater group and later became part of La Cazuela, a fundamental entity of the performing arts in Alcoy with which he debuted in 1972. with "El retaule del flautista" ("The Flutist's Altarpiece"), published by Jordi Teixidor in 1968.
Ten years later, in 1978, he made his first foray into film with "The Portentous Life of Father Vicent." Since then he had a constant presence in films and television series, where he stood out in roles such as Blasco Ibáñez in "Cartes de Sorolla" for Valencian Television and lately in the series "Desenterrats".
Mira also participated in the films "Thank you for the tip" ("Thank you for the tip") (1996) by Francesc Bellmunt; "The sea" (1999) by Agustí Villaronga; "The island of the Dutchman" (2000) by Sigfrid Monleón; "Las voces de la noche" (2002) by Salvador García; and "Nos vemos mañana", by Xavier Berraondo.
The actor had a great connection with his hometown, Alcoi, which in 2022 awarded him the Premi 9 d'Octubre.
Mira was a 'festero' at the Moors and Christians Festival, of the Domingo Miques filà, and helped the Royal Ambassador transmit the message of the Kings of the East in 2015, in a traditional parade held in this municipality.
"A great actor has left us, a man from Alcoy who has built his career through effort, showing not only a great acting quality that has earned him numerous recognitions, but also a great human quality," said the mayor of Alcoy. , Toni French.
From banking to interpretation
In an interview with Agencia EFE, in July 2022, he recounted his transition from working in banking to acting, to which his friend Lluís Miquel, from Tabalet, took him, and how the theater became a "gym" for him, in the middle of "getting in shape."
"I do things that I would never have done in my life in the theater and I feel like I'm going back to the beginning," he was grateful for his profession, which led him to work with directors like Luis García Berlanga, who gave him a "trap" to participate in the film (for television) by Blasco Ibáñez.
Mira lived between her two residences in Alcoy (Alicante) and Cullera (Valencia), facing the Mediterranean, whose "light, color and smell" gave her life.
The actor had overcome several cancer diagnoses and said that death did not scare him. What he did fear was suffering. "When the doctors tell you 'there's nothing more we can do,' let it be, then what are we doing here," he said.
