Discover the great meander of the Llobregat

In The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia we can see the great meander of the Llobregat river as it passes through Castellbell and the Vilar, in the Vallès Occidental, with the majestic Montserrat mountain in the background.

The meander is a curve described by the course of a river, whose sinuosity is pronounced, as can be seen in the images. They form more easily in rivers on alluvial plains with very low slopes.

This part of Castellbell and Vilar is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular meanders of the Llobregat river, since it draws an almost 360° arc over the terrain.

The delimited wetland covers from Pont Nou on the B-122 road from Terrassa to Castellbell and El Vilar to the area known as Grauet, on the other side of the hill where Castellbell Castle sits.

The meander space occupies an area of about 27 hectares. It presents a very notable diversity of environments and a high botanical and faunal interest, since it acts as a biological corridor between the Montserrat massif, the protagonist of these images, and the Sant Llorenç del Munt massif.

It includes a lock, the Burés dam, and, after the restoration actions carried out by the environmental group l'Alzina, it also includes a lagoon located on the right bank of the river.
