Death toll from Moscow terrorist attack rises to 140

Moscow, March 27 (EFE).- The number of fatalities from the terrorist attack last Friday against the Crocus City Hall concert hall, northwest of Moscow, rose to 140 people, after the death of one seriously injured, as reported today Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko.

"Unfortunately, one of the injured, who was in an extremely serious condition, died. The doctors did everything possible," he told the Russian press, quoted by Interfax.

Murashko added that in hospitals in Moscow and the Moscow region "there are still 80 injured people, including 6 minors."

Previously, authorities had reported 139 fatalities from the terrorist attack in the city of Krasnogorsk, northwest of the Russian capital.

According to Russian investigators, the cause of death of those attending the concert, where the tragedy occurred, is gunshot wounds and asphyxiation from smoke from the fire set by the attackers.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) reported the arrest of eleven people in connection with the attack.

Among those detained are four terrorists who participated in the attack, as reported by the director of the FSB, Alexandr Bórtnikov, to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The suspects, who offered resistance, were detained on a road in the Bryansk region, bordering Ukraine, where they allegedly intended to escape.

Russia has admitted that the attack on the outskirts of Moscow was carried out by Islamists but insists on searching for a "Ukrainian footprint." EFE
