Daniel Sancho's lawyer, forceful at the doors of prison in Thailand: "He is innocent"

The murder case of Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta continues to attract controversy after several weeks of becoming known. The accused of the crime is Daniel Sancho, who confessed to having dismembered the victim at a police station in Kho Phagan, Thailand at the beginning of August. Since then he has remained locked up in a Koh Samui prison, awaiting a trial in which he will face the death penalty.

Given the storm of information and opinions that have come to light in recent days and weeks, the detainee's legal team has intervened in this regard. Marcos García Montes, Sancho's lawyer, visited his client in Thailand for the third and last time this week, before returning to Spain with his father, the actor Rodolfo Sancho. Although the parent has abstained, the lawyer has invoked the presumption of innocence of the defendant.

“Because let's not fool ourselves, Daniel Sancho is innocent until proven otherwise, in a fair trial, with all the guarantees and in the corresponding court, which will be the Provincial Court, which here is called Provincial Code. There you will see the prosecutor's evidence and ours. Obviously, the Prosecutor's Office still does not have the latest evidence from the Police. In 15 or 20 days they will transfer us and from there, we will go to work,” he explained at the doors of the prison.

García Montes' words come after the latest move by the Thai police, which is concluding its report on the murder. “We are finalizing the report. We are missing several blood and DNA results that are being analyzed in laboratories in Bangkok and Hat Yai (southern Thailand). We will deliver the final report to the Prosecutor's Office in the middle of the month," Suteep Chadakarn, agent at the Phangan police station and responsible for the case, explained to the EFE agency.

According to information coming from Thailand, police agents have a full period of 84 days to conclude their investigation, even if they deliver the report to the Prosecutor's Office ahead of time. This is because the legal entity can order the request of more tests if they consider it necessary. In total, about 30 agents have participated in the analysis of the events that occurred. Once said report is in the hands of the judge, Sancho's lawyers will have access to it.

“The family has hired a team to defend Daniel's interests in Spain, Colombia and here. We are preparing tests, very interesting tests that we cannot reveal. We are working hard. We have a team of experts, criminological psychologists, specialists... and that is what we are working on," García Montes insisted after returning to Spain this past Thursday.
