About thirty teachers and union delegates gathered this Friday morning in the courtyard of the Dertosa Institute in Tortosa to show solidarity with the teacher attacked last week in Gandesa by a former student and to demand "respect" for the exercise of his work. .
Representatives of the Terres de l'Ebre teaching staff board have warned that the violent situations they have to face have increased, inside and outside the classrooms, and demand that their figure be recognized as a "public authority" .
They regret that their role is often not given credibility in the face of complaints and accusations from students.
The call has been supported by other centers in the territory, such as the Roquetes institute.
The attack took place last Wednesday in the Gandesa library. A professor from IES Terra Alta, accompanied by his seven-year-old daughter, coincided there with a group of former students, who made fun of him.
When he asked them to stop, one of them hit him, knocked him to the ground and kicked him. The professor required medical attention and remains on sick leave.
The Mossos have investigated a case of minor injuries and have transferred them to the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, given that the alleged aggressor is seventeen years old.
The aggression has inflamed the spirits of unions and teachers in Terres de l'Ebre. Not only because of the significance of Gandesa's specific case, but because of the concern over what they consider to be a growing trend of lack of respect for their work that worsens day by day in the classrooms and also outside. This has been one of the central axes of the manifesto that they read during the event in the courtyard of the Dertosa institute.
"We stand in solidarity with the Gandesa colleague who was attacked and we want to denounce that it is not an isolated incident, that on a daily basis we suffer attacks, if not physical or verbal, and we see a growing loss of respect on the part of families and students. We have lost a lot of respectability on the part of of society," lamented Pau Ureña, representative of the Terres de l'Ebre teaching board and professor at the Dertosa institute, who has appealed to the management of the centers, the Department of Education and families to recover this "respectability." and dignity" of the group.
"Today it was totally necessary that in our center, like the rest of the centers in the territory, we went out to report the situation that has occurred at the Terra Alta Institute. We want to support the educational community of this center and we are ready for the situation of the teacher waiting for him to get well," insisted the director of the Tortosino secondary school, Francina Prades.
"We denounce any type of violence and ask for respect for the teaching community. In the end, what we want is to teach our classes and carry out our work in the best conditions," he added.
