Chery and EV Motors want to present their investment next week in Barcelona

The agreement for the reindustrialization of Nissan's land in the Barcelona Free Trade Zone is imminent. Sources close to the negotiations indicate that the different parties involved in this long and complex process are considering Friday, April 19, as the date to carry out the official signing ceremony.

In recent days, EV Motors executives and representatives of the Generalitat have traveled to Wuhu (China) to try to secure the agreement. Sources from the Spanish company point out that the negotiations are very well underway, but they emphasize that they are not yet closed.

For his part, the Minister of Business, Roger Torrent, has traveled in person to secure the agreement. In an address to the media this morning, the senior official of the Generalitat has expressed confidence that the agreement can materialize in the coming days, although he has asked to be "cautious." The councilor has pointed out that Chery is a key player in giving a new industrial boost to the former Nissan facilities.

The agreement with the Chinese group guarantees sufficient workload to absorb the around 600 former Nissan workers pending relocation, and who have training contracts until October. Chery has indicated that, when the plant reaches full capacity, the workforce will increase to 1,000 jobs.

The Chinese company has not specified what plans it has for the new facilities, although some media have speculated that it could manufacture both electric and combustion vehicles. Among them, the electric Omoda 5 stands out.
