Carlos Mazón will "fight" for the Copa del América to return to Valencia

The president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, announced today that his government "will fight for the Copa del América to return home."

Mazón has chosen the day on which Madrid has announced that it will host Formula 1 motorsports to make his announcement during his participation in the colloquium 'Knowing to improve: Committed policies to advance', within the 12th Exceltur Forum.

On the eve of the inauguration of Fitur 2024, the head of the Valencian Consell explained during his speech the main axes of his government in tourism matters, in which he defended a Valencian Community open to tourism, which contrasted the vision that His opinion was the government of socialist Ximo Puig, “because a people with open arms grows more and better.”

Mazón has reiterated that the suppression of the tourist tax in the Valencian Community - which did not come into force - conveys to tourists the message that "they are welcome and do not bother", while at the same time he has advocated for a developed tourism policy " together with the tourism sector and not against it”

The president of the Valencian government has given the loss of the America's Cup sailing in the city of Valencia as an example of a government that acts against the tourism sector. For this reason, he has advanced that "he will fight for it to return home", defending that competition - in this case with Barcelona - is perfectly compatible with cooperating as a great destination because "competing makes us better."

However, Mazón has shared with the audience the idea that “the quality tourist is not the one who spends the most, but the one who tells everyone that he had a good time and is willing to repeat.”

In addition, it has pointed out sustainability as a strategic axis of the Consell's tourism policy, using tax incentives for establishments that invest in energy sustainability, and striving to accredit the Valencian Community as a sustainable destination. Mazón aims to become the first autonomous region in Spain to obtain the AENOR certificate for tourism sustainability.

The Alicante politician has defended the balance between promotion and planning and has pointed out that the government he presides is moving forward “with real and fiscal policies” to end a “more than surpassed” debate on mass tourism. Along these lines, he pointed out that thanks to tourism models such as Benidorm "there are many people who have been able to afford vacations in Spain."

Finally, he has highlighted the professionalism of the tourism sector in the Valencian Community and has defended the tourism industry as an “industry just as important as the rest.”

In the panel 'Knowing to improve: Committed policies to advance' of the 12th Exceltur forum, the head of the Consell has participated together with the president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo; the president of Exceltur and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, Gabriel Escarrer; the CEO of the investment group Hesperia, Jordi Ferrer; the general director of Fuerte Hotels and president of AEHCOS, José Luque; and the president of Binter Canarias, Rodolfo Núñez.
