Carlos Mazón: "The expansion of the Port is key to the take-off of the Valencian Community"

The 'president' of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has defended that the northern expansion of the port of Valencia is a "sine qua non" for the economic development of the Valencian Community, which is why he has called for unity between administrations and companies so that its completion is a reality.

"This ecosystem of the Valencian Community cannot wait any longer. Spain is waiting for us, but we are also waiting for Spain (...) This is the great ambition for this open Valencian Community that wants to lead the Mediterranean, Spain and Europe without any type of complex".

This was stated at the inauguration of the second edition of the 'Valencian Community towards the future' conference, organized by Europa Press with the participation of representatives of Valencian companies with a presence in the autonomous region such as Banco Sabadell, BP, COXABENGOA, Ford, Fujitsu, Global Omnium, Redit and Vithas. The forum analyzes three key issues: industrial innovation and competitiveness, ecological transition and sustainable growth, and digital transformation in key sectors.

Mazón has emphasized that the expansion of the Port is the "epicenter" of the demands of the Generalitat and "the most immediate springboard that we have", which is why he has guaranteed that he will continue to demand it in all forums "always listening to the unions, companies and the logistics and energy sector".

"It is now a country issue," he stated, insisting that this project will contribute to improving the GDP of all of Spain. That is why he has demanded to overcome the "funnel" in which he finds himself and to do so "not from an exclusive separatism that wants to have a bell tower larger than that of the town or community next door."

Furthermore, he has warned that both the expansion of the Port and the water needed by the irrigators of Alicante and the ceramics sector of Castellón are "issues that have an amber light and where the red light is beginning to flash." "Without them it will be very difficult for us to talk about this ecosystem and an open Valencian Community," she predicted, as well as the future General State Budgets (PGE) or the reform of the regional financing system.

In general, Mazón has assured that in the more than one hundred days that he has been governing, he has set as objectives an attractive fiscal environment to attract investments, instead of being "at the top" of Spain in terms of taxes; energy sovereignty, because "without that sovereignty the state of the autonomies cannot be understood", and bureaucratic simplification so as not to "smother" future perspectives.

He has also highlighted the importance of political and institutional stability so as not to scare away investments. "We try to contribute, in the midst of a lot of noise, of not very desirable levels of polarization, because there are evident discrepancies about what is happening in Spain," he stated, and stressed that political parties should not focus on what " separates" so as not to damage future objectives.

"As difficult as it may seem, a self-respecting government has to continue offering spaces for agreements; abstracting ourselves from the noise, no matter how important the discrepancies are. It is materially impossible for everyone to disagree every day, let's acknowledge it once and for all," he emphasized. , and has called for unity in the investments that "the Valencian Community needs."

As a summary, the 'president' recalled that it was in this same room at the headquarters of the Valencian Business Confederation (CEV) that more than two years ago he defended his candidacy for the presidency of the PPCV, which he continues to hold. At that time, he stressed, he already exposed future challenges that are more pressing today.

That is why he thanked Europa Press for the opportunity to open this debate forum and highlighted its role as "narrator of our history" by transmitting reality "in a more understandable way."

"The future has already arrived and we are responsible for accelerating its arrival," he claimed, which he linked to the need for "a Valencian Community open in every sense" and an economic environment "not only friendly, but brave." and ambitious." "

At the opening of the forum, the executive president of Europa Press, Asís Martín de Cabiedes, highlighted that "if there is a Spanish community open to the outside, it is the Valencian Community", which he considered a land "generating great business opportunities in the economic and social sphere".

Martín de Cabiedes has highlighted that "it is difficult to choose three topics of greatest interest and relevance" for a conference like 'Towards the Future', with "such outstanding members and authorities of such a level." 'Industrial innovation and competitiveness', 'Ecological transition and sustainable growth' and 'Digital transformation in key sectors' are the titles of the three tables.
