Butterflies can be seen all year round

Due to the good temperatures we have this month of December, there are still several geranium butterflies in the garden of the Pedralbes monastery in Barcelona, which is why I was able to take these photographs for La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos.

During these dates it is not normal to be able to see them fluttering among the flowers. Your last generation is normally around the month of October, so you won't have to be here anymore. If climate change already allows us to see butterflies all year round, are we welcome?

Well no, but at least we know that in the animal world they surely adapt better and sooner than human beings to the new temperatures that have blurred the boundaries between the seasons of the year.

Between May and October these butterflies (small in size and with brown or brown wings) lay their eggs on plants, on geraniums (hence their name), mainly on the flowers.

The eggs hatch and the tiny larvae are introduced through the corolla to the peduncle or stem of the flower, from whose sap they feed. Then they drill the stem and leave to move on to another.

As if it were woodworm, if we see these holes they are the first sign of its presence. And yes, they cause damage to plants. Affected stems blacken and truncate.

Therefore, we can ask ourselves if the readaptation to the climate that the animal world is experiencing to the new climate can mean that the plagues caused, in this case, by this butterfly, can spread and become more noticeable with climate change. So yes, butterflies are seen all year round, but is it good or bad?
