Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro successfully underwent two new surgeries this Tuesday, one of them to correct problems caused by the attack he suffered in 2018, and is recovering satisfactorily in his room, his doctors reported.

The 68-year-old leader of the extreme right in Brazil initially had an upper digestive endoscopy to treat a hiatus hernia in order to improve the recurrent reflux crises he has suffered since he was stabbed during the 2018 election campaign, according to the medical bulletin.

The second intervention was to correct a deviated septum and improve his respiratory conditions, according to the bulletin signed by the doctors of the Vila Nova Star Hospital in São Paulo and which was distributed by the former president's spokespersons.

According to the former governor's spokesman, Fábio Wajngarten, the two surgeries, which were scheduled for this Tuesday, went ahead without problems and allowed Bolsonaro to be taken directly to his room, where he is recovering and where he will be examined this Tuesday by his patients. doctors to determine discharge.

"We appreciate the prayers. The surgeries are finished and passed with the greatest tranquility," Wajngarten said in a message he published on his social networks.

This was the sixth surgery that Bolsonaro had to undergo due to the problems caused by the stab wound he received while participating in a campaign event for the 2018 presidential elections, in which he was elected head of state.

The hospitalization of the retired Army captain coincides with the worsening of his problems with the Brazilian Justice, which is investigating him for several cases.

In recent weeks, Bolsonaro has had to attend different interrogations before the Federal Police, which is investigating him for the alleged misappropriation of jewelry that he received as gifts from the State and for his alleged participation in the coup plot promoted by businessmen related to extreme groups. right.

He is also being investigated as a possible instigator of the January 8 riot, when thousands of "Bolsonaristas" stormed the headquarters of the Presidency, Congress and the Supreme Court in an attempt to force a coup d'état against Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who defeated Bolsonaro in the 2022 presidential elections.

The former ruler was also politically disqualified for eight years by the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) on June 30 for spreading hoaxes and seriously attacking the electoral system and democratic institutions.

Analysts consider that their situation will become even more complicated after the Supreme Court approved last Friday the award-winning collaboration agreement that the Federal Police signed with Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former aide-de-camp of the former president and witness in several of the processes against Bolsonaro.
