Barcelona wants to stop crowds to take photos with the Christmas lights

The Christmas light show that illuminates Barcelona's Passeig de Gràcia has caused large crowds of people in recent days. Hundreds of people stop on the large avenue to take photos with the hanging lights, a fact that makes circulation difficult and creates traffic jams.

The Barcelona City Council has decided to act this Sunday to remedy it and has cordoned off the sides of the streets in addition to reinforcing the Urban Guard troops to prevent the crowd from hindering traffic.

Taking advantage of the pedestrian traffic light, people stop on the avenue and take photos with the Christmas lights in the background in search of the perfect selfie. To avoid this, the agents have cordoned off the section between Gran Via and Consell de Cent during certain hours of the day.

The situation has worsened in the last three days, probably due to the holidays, so the City Council has decided to act on it. These temporary measures - the sealing is removed at night when there is less influx of people - seek, in addition to avoiding traffic jams, to promote pedestrian safety.
