Barcala (PP) wins in Alicante and will govern by adding a comfortable majority with Vox

Luis Barcala will continue to be mayor of Alicante. The PP goes from 9 to 14 councilors and, since the absolute majority is at 15, with the 4 councilors who at this point would be from Vox, it adds up with ease, given that the PSPV (8), Compromís (2) and EU- Podem (1) are far from approaching the majority. Ciudadanos loses the 5 councilors it had. With these results, Barcala will even be able to govern alone, by adding more councilors than the entire left, as he has already advanced in his first statements.

Barcala obtains 5 more councilors than in 2019, exactly the five lost by Ciudadanos, who have not managed to make their presence in local government profitable at all. Vox, with a new candidate, Carmen Robledillo, doubles its representation by adding four councilors, becoming the third force in the consistory.

The result allows Barcala, who has more councilors than the whole of the left, to govern in a minority, as he did in the previous term -in coalition with Cs in that case- without the need to include far-right councilors in his government team.

That will probably not be the case for Pablo Ruz, the new mayor of Elx. The popular does not head the most voted list, because Carlos González's PSPV has obtained 12 councillors, one more than the PP. Ruz needs the votes of Vox so that his 3 councilors allow him to recover the Elche council for the right, and he has already contacted the head of his list.

The PP will maintain the comfortable absolute majority of Toni Pérez in Benidorm, who sounds like the future president of the Provincial Council, like that of Eduardo Dolón, who will be able to continue governing Torrevieja, while the sum with Vox would allow the popular to recover Orihuela. The PSPV will keep Rubén Alfaro in Elda and Alcoi, despite the fact that the PP would have 9 councilors for Toni Francés' PSPV to 8, this could lead a coalition of the left that adds one more mayor than the right-wing bloc.
