Barça transfer Nico González to Porto

Barça announced this Saturday the transfer of Nico González to Porto for an amount of 8.5 million euros. The Catalan club reserves the right to repurchase the Blaugrana youth squad for 30 million until June 30, 2025 and has also agreed with the Portuguese team that they would receive 40% of a future sale.

"FC Barcelona publicly expresses its gratitude to Nico González for his commitment and dedication and wishes him good luck and achievements in the future," said the Barcelona club to the Galician, who has signed until 2028 with the Estadio do Dragão team.

González, who already played on loan last season at Valencia, arrived at La Masia when he was only 11 years old from Montañeros, a modest club from A Coruña. The son of the also footballer Fran González made his debut in the Blaugrana first team under Ronald Koeman in the 2021-22 season, when he played a total of 37 games, 17 as a starter.

"I am very happy and very excited. I really want to start and meet everyone. Today I saw the Estadio do Dragão for the first time and I couldn't be more excited to start playing here. I can promise the fans a lot of sacrifice and a lot of work in the field, but above all that I will fight to give them titles", explained González after confirming his arrival in Portugal.

González preferred to leave the Blaugrana team at the start of the previous season given the few minutes that coach Xavi Hernández could guarantee him. Despite the fact that he has acted as a defensive pivot, the interior position is where González's virtues stand out the most, great technique, good vision of the game and a lot of physical presence.

Injuries prevented him from playing regularly in the first months of his short stay at Valencia, but he ended up establishing himself in the starting eleven, starting the last 11 games. The coach Rubén Baraja ended up giving him confidence in a Valencia that ended up saving the category in the final days.

"I really want to meet everyone, especially Pepe, who is a great example and from whom I can learn a lot," the Spanish under-21 international added about his veteran former Real Madrid player, captain of the blue and whites at 40 years old.
